Woodley, Gerald L. – of Knoxville, TN went home to rejoice with the Lord, January 31, 2010 at Parkwest Hospital. He was a faithful member of Greater Warner  Tabernacle AME Zion Church. He was a graduate of Austin High School class of 1960. Retired from the University of Tennessee. Preceded in death by: mother, Gloria Easterly Woodley, father, Robert Woodley (RC) ; and sister, Edna R. (Tina) Jacks. Survivors: wife, Vickie Woodley; sons, Garrick and Charles (Chuckie) Woodley; grandchildren, Terrie Roberts, Garrick Bailey  and Ashley Woodley; brothers, John (Helen) Woodley; sisters, Harriet Johnson, Ella Chigano, Joann and Diana Woodley;  Two stepchildren; 4 step-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Family will meet at 5:00 PM at 2105 McCalla Avenue prior to receiving friends on Thursday, February 4, 2010 from 6:00-6:30 PM at Greater Warner Tabernacle AME Zion Church. Reverend George Banks officiating. Interment  9:30 AM, Friday, February 5, 2010 at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors. Services will conclude with a full dove release. Family will be at 2105 McCalla Avenue.

Preceded in death: parents, James and Jeanette Weems Grant; daughters, Patricia and Renee Grant; brothers, James and Tommy Grant. Survivors; children, Tarance Gallamore, Osceola and Tiffany Grant; grandchildren,  Cassandra and Reuben Glass; Jamal Grant; great-grandchildren, Irianna Renee and Rashawn Glass; sisters, Suzie Hodge, Gladys Greenlee, Gloria Douglass,  Rose Turner, Gwendolyn and Barbara Grant; brothers, Richard and Joel Grant; close personal friend, Eula Skaggs and devoted friend, Judith Grant; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mix, Willie – Born August 12, 1926 passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2010. Survivors: devoted wife, Theresa Moran Mix; stepsons, Dwight and Ronnie Rogers; step-daughters, Teresa Rogers and Tammy (Jeff) Simmons; several grandchildren; great-nieces, Tonya (Richard) Stewart, Shondra Tate; great- nephews, Jerome Gordon and Tracy Tate; sister-in-law, Linda (John) Moore; brother-in-law, John (Wanda) Moran, Wayne (Jackie) Moran and Warren (Katrina). Family will receive friends Thursday, February 4, 2010 from 12:00-12:30 pm with services to follow at Unity Mortuary Chapel. Reverend Leroy Franklin officiating. Harold G. Manning

Manning, Harold G. – December 18, 1945 – January 27, 2010. Preceded in death by: parents, Harold R. Manning and Louise Johnson Manning. A graduate of Hiawassee College and E.T.S.U., a member of Church Street United Methodist Church, a loyal member and long- time vice-president of the Smoky Mountain Coin Club, and long-time member and vice-president of the Greater Knoxville Cactus and Succulent Society. He was employed by Garden Craft for 30 years. Special thanks to Dr. Hannah and his staff, Interfaith Clinic, to friend Marilyn Harrell, life-long friend, Jack Walker and to family and friends who loved him. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 2:00pm, Mt. Hope Cemetery, Franklin, Tennessee. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Interfaith Clinic of Knoxville or Adopt-A-Pet. Receiving of friends will be Saturday, February 6, 2010 from 2-4pm at the home.

Shirley Ann Chesney Tate

Tate, Shirley Ann Chesney – RN, daughter of the late William E. and Mary Garrette Chesney, went into eternal rest on January 19, 2010. She retired from Fort Sanders Regional Hospital after 35 years of service. She was preceded in death by:  son, Gregory Allen Tate; parents; 5 brothers and 4 sisters. She leaves her loving family:  sons, Gary and Michael Chesney; daughter, Doris Tate Davenport; grandchildren, Nahia (Andre) Halloway, Ashanti Bailey Chesney, Diedra Tate, Tamika Tate, Brittany Davenport, Michael Chesney Jr., Dyanunhdre Sutton and Jada Davenport; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Ballenger, Knoxville, TN and Mary F. Senter, Morristown, TN; sisters-in law, Hueen Chesney and Gwendolyn Chesney; brother-in-law, Paul Bolton; several nieces and nephews including very devoted nieces, Mary Helen Smith and Ollie (Ploozie) Goolsby; and several other family members, church family and friends. Allen, Matthew Henry – age 70, went to be with the Lord on January 15, 2010. He attended Beardsley Jr. High School Class of 1957. He was preceded in death by: mother, Cassie McGee; brother, Donald Williams and sister, Barbara Billingsley. He leaves to cherish his memories: brothers, James “Papa” (Yolanda), Paul “Dusty” (Yolanda) and Alvin (Mattie) McKenzie of Knoxville, TN; sisters, Juliette Day of Atlanta, GA and Debra (Louis) McKnight of Hopkinsville, KY; brotherly friend, Puddin (Tammy) Johnson; former wife, Loretta Allen; devoted friends, Mary Cline, Jimmie Duncan, Larry Carr, Moran family, Green Turf Golf Association and many devoted nieces, nephews and other family members. Arnold, Marcus Todd III, – went on a journey with our Lord on January 17, 2010. We were blessed by his presence, October 12, 2009. Clemons, Alva Jean (Jean) – age 76, departed this life January 16, 2010 at Parkwest Hospital. Born on March 22, 1933 to John Fitzgerald and Cleo and Josephine Nelson in Knoxville, TN. She is preceded by: parents: sister, Margarette Brown; brother, La Vera Nelson Sr; and a devoted friend, Cliff Love. She leaves to mourn her passing; daughter, Revelta Price; devoted grandchildren, Kevin and Sabrina Price; great-grandchildren, Tyrone Price and Ronnie Johnson; brother, Joe Lynn (Evelyn) Nelson; sister, Paula Nelson; sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Nelson all of Knoxville, TN; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
