Barry Leonardo Richardson

(Barry_Richardson_program) Richardson, Barry Leonardo was born November 6, 1953, in Knoxville, TN, to the late Magdalene Scaggs Angel and Aaron Richardson.  He departed this life on Thursday, June 16, 2011. 

He accepted Christ at an early age under the guidance and stewardship of his grandfather, Reverend Edward Scaggs.

He graduated from Austin-East High School in 1971.  He was drafted out of high school to play professional baseball for the Houston Astros.  He attended Columbia State Community College, where he received a scholarship to play baseball.  He transferred to East Tennessee State University, where he received a BS in Transportation in 1975. Barry was an accomplished artist, having designed the official Austin-East Roadrunner symbol, and he was also an accomplished and avid golfer.

Barry was a dedicated and faithful employee of State Farm Insurances Companies for 31 years, serving in leadership capacities for 23 years in Knoxville and Murfreesboro Tennessee.

Barry was preceded in death by: mother, Magdalene Scaggs (Frank) Angel; father, Aaron D. Richardson; grandparents, Reverend Edward and Charlotte (Lottie Minor) Scaggs; nephew, Justin Leath. Left to cherish his memory: loving wife, Cheryl; son, Eric; daughter, Bianca; brother, Rev. Shawn (Sylvia) Angel; sister, Ingrid (Carlos) Erving; uncle and aunt but special godparents rearing Barry after the death of his mother, Jervis and Rosetta Leath; aunt, Sharon (Jesse) Farmer; father-and mother-in-law, Oscar and Dorothy Henderson; special cousins, Reginald (Valerie) Leath, Jervece Steele, Xavier (Aixa) Leath, and Tegwyn (Paul) Berry; brothers-in-law, Rev. Anthony (Annette) Henderson and Jeffrey Henderson.  He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special devoted friends, Mr. and Mrs. Roland Dykes, III. A special thanks to the staff of Vanderbilt Hospital.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 1601 Dandridge Avenue, Knoxville, Tennessee from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. with funeral service to follow with Dr. LaTisha Reeves officiating. A private interment will be held at Highland Memorial South Cemetery on Chapman Highway. Services to conclude with full dove release.
