Sylvia Annette Gillespie Hughes, age 74, transitioned from this earth to heaven at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center on Saturday, July 16, 2016.  She was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church. She retired from the University of Tennessee Medical Center, Cytology Laboratory and was a member of the Austin High School Class of 1960. She is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, James Edward Hughes; her parents, James E. and Hildrith D. Johnson Gillespie; sister, Janie M. Gillespie; nephews, DeWayne Gillespie and Marcus Carmichael; and other relatives.  She will be remembered by her children, James (Alexis) Gillespie Hughes and LaTisha Cleveland ( Terry) Thomas; grandchildren, Antonio Hughes, Janell Thomas and James H. Hughes; siblings, Frank, Dr. J. Harvey and Hildrith C. Gillespie, Darneta Brown and Bonita Gillespie; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
