Edward Lewis, Jr. age 85, of Knoxville, TN. passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Holston Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Lewis was born in St. Louis, MO to Elic Lewis and Estella Hawthorne Lewis. Mr. Lewis is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Mrs. Lorraine Martha Lewis; brothers, James and Warren; sister, Melissa. He is survived by his devoted sister, Barbara Lewis Walker; nieces; nephews; and extended family members and friends. Mr. Lewis resided in Chicago, IL where he retired from the Keebler Company, at which time he relocated to Knoxville. In retirement, Mr. Lewis enjoyed bowling, fishing, chess, and grilling. He was an avid golfer and a loving caregiver for his wife, Lorraine for several years. The Lewis family will receive friends Monday, January 27,2014 from 11:00 AM to 12 noon at Unity Mortuary on McCalla Avenue. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 12 noon with burial at The East Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery at 1:30PM with full Military honors. Friends are welcome to visit the family at his home on River Shores Drive following the services.

Edward “Chief” Henderson, Jr.
Sunday, January 12th, 2014Edward ‘Chief’ Henderson, Jr. was born February 16, 1973. Chief passed away peacefully at Methodist Medical Center and joined his Lord on Sunday January 12, 2014 at the age of 40 years old. Chief was preceded in death by his grandparents, Johnnie and Sarah Elizabeth Harris, Renfro, Sr. and Vinnie Lee Henderson; uncles, Renfro Jr., and Jerome Henderson. He was also affectingly known to us as “Big Chief and Jr” either name you used he answered, he was welled love by all. He was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School class of 1992. He played football and loved the sport. He graduate from Atlanta Technical Institute, Atlanta GA. He received his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Georgia Tech; taught HVACC class at the University of Tennessee and was currently enrolled at Pellissippi State Community College. He worked at Wild Wing Sports Bar and Grill as a bouncer in Turkey Creek. Jr. was a self-made labor who loved to use his hands and shared all his God given talents. He worked at Henderson Heating and Air, worked on cars etc. you name it he worked on that item because he loved his work. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church joining at an early age. He was currently attending Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Knoxville at the time of his death. Barbara Jean Saffell
Saturday, January 11th, 2014Saffell, Barbara Jean – age 80, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2014 in Knoxville, TN. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She was born to the late David and Sara Banks on January 9, 1934. Preceding her in death were her Husband, Everett “Tip” Saffell; Daughters, Karen Denise Booker, Brenda Jean Jatta, Phyllis Ann Saffell; Son, Terry Franklin Saffell; Sisters, Mary Frances Tate, Willie Bell Thomas and Juanita Davis; Brothers, Jimmy Banks, Johnny Banks and Robert Banks. She is survived by her children, Wayne Saffell, Marilyn Young, Angela Burns, Robin (Angela) Saffell, Sylvia Saffell, Ronald and Donald Saffell; 23 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends 11:00 – 11:30 a.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014 at First AME Zion Church 1900 McCalla Avenue. The funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m with Reverend Michael McNair officiating. Interment will follow at Knoxville National Cemetary, 939 Tyson St. Knoxville, TN.

Wednesday, January 8th, 2014McFarland, Franklin Delano – of Knoxville, TN at the age of 78, moved to his new home on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. He now meets with his mother, Emma, father, Leroy and brother, Fred McFarland. He leaves behind two sons, Everett, Knoxville and Gregory, Atlanta; three daughters, Lenora, Atlanta, Krystal, Nashville and Carmen, Knoxville; four sisters, Molly, Merilin, Carolyn and Martha; one brother, Leon McFarland; a host of other relatives and friends. He has fought the fight and finished the race. He will be greatly remembered.

Wednesday, January 1st, 2014Howard Linder, 64, passed away on January 1, 2014. Howard was born May 5, 1949 in Wrightsville, Georgia. He was a Vietnam and Gulf War Veteran and a longtime employee of the Buford C. Smith Company. He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church. He is survived by wife, Patricia (Bates) Linder; children, Christopher (Rozlyn) Linder, Natascha (Steven) Lundy and Ukennia Arinze; mother, Eddie Mae (Davis) Linder; sister, Lillie Gwendolyn Linder; brother, Dr. Harvey (Juliet) Linder; seven grandchildren and devoted sister in law and best friend Shirley Bates. Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 5:00 -6:00pm with funeral service to follow at 6:00 pm at Mount Calvary Baptist church. Reverend Leroy Franklin officiating. Burial will be held on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 9:30 am, East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery with full dove release and military honors.
