Smith, John E. – of Knoxville was born November 23, 1978 to his beloved parents, Doris Smith and John (Pedro) Williams, and loving grandmother, Mary Smith-Lane. John departed this life October 27, 2013 at University of Tennessee Medical Center. He graduated from Carter High School and went on to further his education at Lane College. He was to start Real Estate School on November 4, 2013. He was employed at Central Car Wash & Detailing. Preceded in death by his grandmother, Betty Williams. John leaves behind his daughters , Joyous ,Aaliyah and Taqualla; sisters, Nikki (JaMichael) Garner, Shelita (Spanky) Murriel, Sharmaine, Mahagony and  Aaliah Walton, Erica, Keira; brother, Ahmadd Rochadd; aunts, Emma Taylor, Delrose (Robert) Byrd, Pearl Page, Debra (Michael) Haynes, Teresa Smith, Mary Jean Beauchaine  and Lina Jones; uncles, Tyrone Smith, Elder (Terry) Smith, Tony, Fredrick (Alice), Henry (Peter Gun), Larry, Scottie, Lawrency Williams; niece, Mr. & Mrs. Stanly Smith,  Lora and Annette, Detroit, MI.; a host of nieces nephews includes PeAndra, Demarius, Ro Jr., Ahzyah,  Ahmya  and  a host of  friends and love ones. Smith, Derrick K.  – returned to God on Monday, October 21, 2013 at his home. He was was the husband of Gloria Smith. He is survived by 5 children, 8 grandchildren, 2 brothers, 1 sister and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. The family will receive on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon with funeral services to follow at Unity Mortuary Chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.

Leonard, Sr. Joseph G. – age 78, passed away on Sunday evening, October 20, 2013 at Fort Sanders Hospital. He served in the 101 st Army Airborne Division. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Michael Leonard and daughter, Pamela L. Beene. Joseph is survived by special friend, Pamela Castlemun; brother, Glen and Geri Leonard; sister, Romena Ramsey; son, Joseph G. Leonard, Jr. and wife Sandra; daughter, Kimberly A. Trent; son in law, Jack Beene; grandchildren, Tana, Kristen, Carrie, Travis, Tyler, Tiffany, Sonya and Stacye; 12 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Memorial Service in memory of Joseph will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 12:00 until 2:00  p.m. at Unity Mortuary Chapel.

Griggs, Michael Duane – age 53, passed away on Friday, October18, 2013 at Beverly Park Place in Knoxville. Preceded in death by mother, Agnes Griggs and father, Eugene Shelton. Michael is survived by his brothers, Anthony (Tony), Darrell and Sean Griggs, half-brother, Desmond Shelton; sister, Loretta (Griggs) Coleman; his devoted sister in law, Renita (Poo) Griggs; uncle, James Shelton and aunt, Dorothy Locke. He will be missed by his nieces; nephews; great nieces and great nephews; devoted friend and partner Sarah Cooper (Peanut) and her family. Deathridge, Yvonne Oshanna – of Knoxville went to her heavenly Father on October 13, 2013. Preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo and Grace Cardine, brothers, Gus Carodine and Robert Carodine, of Memphis, Tennessee. She leaves behind her devoted husband and best friend, Larry Deathridge; daughters, Alicia Bonhart of Atlanta, Georgia and Gabrielle Deathridge of Arlington, Texas; son, Khary Deathridge; brothers, Billy Carodine and James Carodine, of Memphis, Tennessee and a host of family and friends. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at New Vision Church, located at 1810 Lovell Road in Knoxville, at 1:00 p.m. Rev. J. Ellis McCleary officiating. Family will assemble at the church at 12:30 p.m.

Carpenter, Mary J. – age 86, departed this life October 8, 2013 at Williamsburg Villas, Knoxville, TN. Preceded in death by parents, husband James R. Carpenter, Sr., sisters, Leola Wells and Blanche Littleton. She was a long time seamstress and hairdresser. She was a member of Bentley Street Christian Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, deaconess and usher. She was also a member of the Der Wunderbar Social Club. She leaves to cherish her memory: son, James R. (Judy) Carpenter, Jr., Knoxville, TN.; daughter, Theresa (Troy) Cooper of Atlanta, GA.; granddaughter, Jessica (Prentiss) Foxx; great grandson, Prentiss Jalon Foxx (P.J.) of Murfreesboro, TN.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
