Brabson, Doretha – was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on August 8, 1957 to Melvin Easterly and Anita Woodard. She had nine siblings. She married Vanderbilt Brabson, III on April 25, 1981. To this union was born two daughters; India and Van’esha; and two sons; Vanderbilt IV and Joshua. Bearing all the attributes of a Proverb 31 wife and mother, she loved her family dearly. She gave her life to Christ at an early age. A member of New Covenant Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee, she faithfully served on the Women’s Missionary Union; Jamaican Mission Team; Media Ministry and was a faithful Family Bible Hour and Mid-week Bible Study attendee. She leaves to cherish her fondest memory, her husband, Vanderbilt III; daughters, India (Marcus) Brabson Oliver and ; Van’esha (David) Brabson Truesdale; sons: Vanderbilt Brabson IV and Joshua M. Brabson; mother: Anita Woodard; brothers: Stephen (Connie) Burress; James Selton; sisters: Gladiola Selton; Trudy (Steve) Woods; Wanda McKinley; Ronnie Willeins; Karen Lawson. Brother-in-laws: Pastor Fredrick (Delores) Brabson, Sr.; Michael (Lisa) Brabson. Sisters-in-laws: Marlena Beal; Linda (Garfield) Wilson; Yvonne (Daryl) Cox; Normel Hodges Brabson. Grandchildren: (Elisha Brabson; Zion Oliver; Israel Oliver; Kylie Coffin); and a host of nephews and nieces; as well as other relatives and friends; and special friend: Donna Wilson-Renner. The Celebration of Life services will be held at New Covenant Baptist Church; Friday, December 11, 2015. The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 a.m. until Noon; funeral services to follow. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a devoted husband and loving father. Preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Hickson; sons, Mark and Norman Hickson; granddaughter, Chalise Anderson. Survived by daughters, Vernita Lee, Norma (Kevin) Grant, Yvette (Henry) Williams, Jacquelyn (Terry) McGhee, Lelia (Bernard) Groves; sons, Ernest (Kassie McCurry) Rickson, Jr., Zanthur Hickson; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sunday, November 15th, 2015Georgia Kathryn (Mackey) Dubose’s sunrise, March 16, 1942 in McCormick, SC. Sunset November 15 2015. Georgia was the eldest of two children. She was a graduate of Austin High School Class of 1959. She was an honor student. She was a graduate of Knoxville Business College Class of 1992 with an Associate’s degree in Accounting. Georgia was a very loyal and dedicated employee at Martin Marietta (Union Carbon/Y-12 National Security) where she retired. She also worked for Hamilton National Bank and Time DC Trucking Company in the Payroll Department.She was a loving and devoted wife to Willie A DuBose for 47 years while living in the Burlington Community they raised four boys, Troy, James, Cedric and Charles. “Ms. Georgia” as she was affectionately known was loved by many. Even though she was a Mother to four boys she was a Mother to many. She opened her home and heart to her son’s childhood friends extending her love to Kenneth Termon and other friends. Georgia never met a stranger as she was loving and giving to all that crossed her path. She enjoyed her family, cooking, shopping, going to church, doing arts/crafts, listening to gospel music, dancing, and gardening. She was very active in her church serving as a deaconess at Community Evangelistic Church (C.E.C). of Knoxville, TN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie A DuBose, father, Willie Pat Mackey, mother, Rovena Mackey and brother, Charles Mackey. Georgia’s memory will be cherished by her children, Troy O. Miller-DuBose, James DuBose (Barti), Charles DuBose (Gwen) and Cedric DuBose (Colorado. She will be remembered by her grandchildren, (Mother Carla DuBose) Darius, Cornelius, Nasya and Jayden (son of Charles and Gwen) and Dionna Neal, (Ohio) (daughter of Cedric and Latrice); a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and other family members of McCormick, SC. Joyce is preceded in death by her father, Hayes Hall; husband, Pat C. Cozart and brother, Carl Hall. Thursday, October 29th, 2015Samuel Augustus Jones, age 89, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2015. He graduated from Knoxville College in 1947 and was a Charter Member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Beta Epsilon chapter. He retired from the Hamden, Connecticut Fire Department where he worked as a firefighter for 30 years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Sam was preceded in death by his first wife, Penelope van Smartt Jones and their daughter, Lorraine Haten. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Jones; his sons, Kenneth Jones and Timothy Hill; his daughter, Monica Miles; his grandchildren, Nitia Miles, Chloe Miles, Anthony Miles, Jr, Jada Miles, Briana Hill, and Nicole Hill; his great grandson, Caden Nedd; and his nieces and nephews: Cynthia Giles, Gregory Jones, Mark Jones, Linda Jones, Cheryl Jones, Marilyn Jones, Alan Jones, David Collins, Ida Williams, Joan Collins, Desiree Williams, Les Jones, Demetrius Jones, Turan Smith, and Lynetta Spears and other relatives and friends. Tuesday, October 27th, 2015Gail Yvonne Johnson transitioned from life to life on October 27, 2015 Gail was born to James and Carolyn Johnson on January 12, 1956. Gail was educated in the Knoxville City School System. She was a very good student. She graduated from Rule High School. Gail was a wonderful care giver for her grandfather, the late Mr. Carl Johnson. She was dependable and demonstrated great skill in caring for her grandfather. Gail was also not afraid to express her opinion if she felt she needed to do so. She worked at the World’s Fair and National Linen. Gail also did volunteer work at Town View Towers. Gail was loved by her family and friends and her memory will be cherished by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. James C Johnson (Carolyn); one sister, Ms. Sherry Diane Johnson; four brothers, Mr. James C. Johnson, Jr., Mr. Maurice A. Johnson, Mr. Troy D. Johnson, and Mr. Antwon Young. She will also be remembered by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Friday, October 23rd, 2015Hubert Jackson – age 75, of Knoxville, TN was born October 3, 1940 and departed this life Friday, October 23, 2015. He was a loyal employee of St. Mary’s Hospital. After 45 years of service he retired. Preceded in death by mother, Willie Jackson; father, Otto Jackson, brother, Richard Jackson, He leaves to cherish his memory: very devoted and loving daughter, Tamala Anderson Stewart (Brian Winton); mother, of his daughter, Inell Stewart; extended family to include, Debra (Nathan) Howard, Ralph (Joyce) Stewart, Jr., both of North Carolina, Anita Stewart, Angela Stewart, Clarence Stewart, III and Cheryl Alsup, all of Knoxville, TN: several nieces and a host of friends too numerous to name. Pastor-Elder David Williams, Jr.
Thursday, October 22nd, 2015Pastor-Elder David Williams, Jr. was born March 1, 1947 to the late David L. Williams and Minnie D. Kyle. He transitioned to his heavenly home on October 22, 2015. Pastor David Williams, Jr. was called to the ministry at a young age of 7 years old. When he got older at the age of 13 he accepted the LORD and was baptized under Pastor Gabriel of Tabernacle Baptist Church of Middlesboro, KY. Later on as he got older he answered the Lord’s calling and he joined Tabernacle of Praise Church, at that time under the leadership of Pastor Ricky Talley. It was there where he preached his first sermon. Later on he moved and joined Universal Church of Deliverance where he trained for many years under Bishop Dr. Allen Butler. After this, he was called to Pastor Hoop Creek Baptist Church. Then the LORD called him to Pastor Walking By Faith Church where he labored until the LORD called him home. He was employed at Browning Ferris, Incorporated for many years. He is preceded in death by sister, Gail Johnson, Mary Helen Gibson of Lexington, KY.; Brother, Willie B. Johnson of Florida.; Step-parents, Benjamin Johnson and Edna Williams; Grandparents, Bob and Carrie Williams, Andy and Sally Kyle and Anna Lee Mize; Great-grandparents, Wiley and Berdie Rodgers. He will be sadly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Mildred. Wednesday, October 21st, 2015James Brown, Jr., age 29, was born on Sept. 21, 1986 in Henrico County Richmond, VA and departed from us on Oct 21, 2015 at UT Hospital in Knoxville, TN surrounded by family and friends. He had love and passion for his family, working at Westgate Resorts, Mr. Cool, performing his music, and seizing every opportunity to be a kind friend. Cherishing his fond memories are parents, James & Lucy (Pagan) Brown; step mother, Pamela Brown; son, Malcolm Brown; brothers, Aaron (Destiny), Calvin, Coley, & Eric; sisters, Regina (Garrett) & Anita.
