Alvin Curtis “Dub” Mynatt, age 64, went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2016 at his residence in Knoxville, TN. He was a Godly brother, uncle, cousin and faithful servant of the true and living God. Up until his passing away, he faithfully taught a Monday Bible Study class at Serene Manor Nursing Home and a family Sunday afternoon Bible study class in the home of his brother. He was retired from KUB. He was born on August 13, 1952, to the late Ernest, Sr., and Alvelder Mynatt. He leaves to cherish his memory his sisters: Ernestine Russell of Tacoma, WA, Doris (John) Lawson, Kathy Smith, Verna Dean Mynatt and Deborah (Lee) Hardin of Knoxville; brothers: Ernie (BJ) Mynatt of Oakley , CA, Norman (Claudia) Mynatt of Stone Mountain, GA, Dennis (Irma) Mynatt, Vernon (Linda) Mynatt and Donney Mynatt of Knoxville; and a host of nieces and nephews. Graveside services for Mr. Mynatt will be on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bethlehem Sunrise Cemetery on Millertown Pike.

Wednesday, October 26th, 2016Carl Douglas Jones, age 77, of Louisville, TN, passed away October 26, 2016, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center in Maryville, TN. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Jones, father, James Bartee and wife of many years Janice Stewart Jones. Carl is survived by his sons, Stewart H. Jones, Knoxville, C. Douglas Jones, II, Buffalo, New York, granddaughter, Janice Theresa Bazar Jones, Philippines, brother- in-laws, Stanley and wife Melissa, North Carolina and Jeff Stewart, New Jersey. The Jones Family will receive friends 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4, 2016, at Unity Mortuary Chapel with memorial service to follow. Rev. Dr. Willa Estell officiating. Wednesday, September 14th, 2016Giabriella Blu Bailey born September 6, 2016 left her foot prints in our hearts September 14, 2016. She preceded in passing with great-great-grandmothers, Ora lee Craigmire and Barbara Brinson; great aunts, Terry Brinson and Katherine Brown; cousins, Jarvis Craigmire and Travis Brinson. She leaves her love and memories with her parents, Shanita Brinson and Jesse Bailey Jr.; grandparents, Barbara Brinson and Contina Craigmire and great-grandparents; a host of other family members. The Bailey family will receive friends at Unity Mortuary Chapel Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 1:00 to 1:30 a.m. with funeral services to immediately follow with Rev. Michael McNair officiating. Shirley J. Weston
Monday, September 12th, 2016Shirley Jo Weston, age 78, of Morristown, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 12, 2016 surrounded by family. She was born on April 18, 1938 in Morristown, Tennessee to Rev. Armstead Wilson & Irene Lucretia Wilson. She was a graduate of Judson S. Hill School. In 1961, she married Theodore Weston, Sr., and from their union came three wonderful children. She was a member of Friendship FBH Church, and then joined Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, where she served in numerous positions and auxiliaries. Some of her contributions at Faith Temple included playing the piano, singing in the choir, and founding the church’s first Usher Board, Sunshine Band, the first Tuesday night Intercessory Prayer Meeting and Senior Citizen Christmas Community Dinner. She also did secretarial work for a number of Presbyterian and Methodist pastors, several churches and businesses. In later years, she was under the leadership of Pastor Renetta Sheadrick of Power of Praise Ministries until the time of her passing. She was well known in the community for babysitting many children in the Morristown community for over 50 years. Along the way, she was coined with the name “Nanny” by one of the children she kept and it stuck. She also was known for calling people on their birthdays, veterans on Veterans Day, and informing people in the community of what foods were being given away through Central Services. She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings: Margaret Ford, Carrie B. Duff, Kathleen Parkey and John Wilson. She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Tonia Jennings, TheolaWeston and Theodore Weston, Jr.; two adopted sons: Dale Hull, Sr. and Herbert Coleman; six grandchildren: Samaria Weston, Secricia Weston, Kevin Bannister, Jr., Shireena (Jeremy) Weaver, Jovon Jennings and Maegoine Rockwell; eight great-grandchildren: Cayden Arps, Jailynn Weaver, Nevaeh Bannister, Elijah Weston, Tomaria Pope, Josiah Pope, Eniyah Pope and Braden Rockwell; two sisters: Mary Jamison and Beulah Avant; two sisters-in-law: Lasalle Bailey & Elizabeth Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and special friends. Community Viewing for Mrs. Weston will be Saturday, September 17, 2016 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Breath of Life Ministries, 4185 East AJ Highway, Morristown. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, with the funeral service following at 1 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Hamblen Memory Gardens.

Saturday, July 16th, 2016Sylvia Annette Gillespie Hughes, age 74, transitioned from this earth to heaven at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center on Saturday, July 16, 2016. She was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church. She retired from the University of Tennessee Medical Center, Cytology Laboratory and was a member of the Austin High School Class of 1960. She is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, James Edward Hughes; her parents, James E. and Hildrith D. Johnson Gillespie; sister, Janie M. Gillespie; nephews, DeWayne Gillespie and Marcus Carmichael; and other relatives. She will be remembered by her children, James (Alexis) Gillespie Hughes and LaTisha Cleveland ( Terry) Thomas; grandchildren, Antonio Hughes, Janell Thomas and James H. Thursday, June 2nd, 2016Alvina Lynne Martin age 80 of Knoxville, TN born September 25, 1935, went to be with her Savior on June 02, 2016 at Tennova Hospice. She was a dedicated member of Cherry Street Church of God. Mrs. Martin retired from the State, East Tennessee Chest Diseased Hospital and Knox County Health Department as an X-ray Technician of 44 years. Preceded in death by parents, Alvin and Louise Brown; sister, Edna Brown. Survived by: devoted husband of 62 years, Emanuel Martin, Jr.; son, Emanuel III (Anita) of Chattanooga, TN; daughters, Melodie (Paul) Daniels of Rockford , TN, Marquetta (Fredrick) Waters of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Alishea Thompson, Isaiah Waters, Danielle Daniels and Shantel ( Trailon) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Zion and Amiya Thompson; sisters, Patricia Benton of Dayton, OH, Wanda (John) Buffington of Springfield, OH , Waneeta (Frenchie) Kyle of Jeffersonville, IN and Estelle (Herman) Smith of Athens, GA; sisters-in-law, Roberta Martin and Brenda Beal of Knoxville, TN, Ella Hughes and Pauline (Louis) Troutman of Lemon Grove, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
