Gilbert E. Sanders

(Gilbert_Sanders_program) Sanders, Gilbert E. – of Sterchi Village, 1646 Maremont Road, Knoxville, Tennessee, slept away on Monday, August 9, 2011 at Shannondale Healthcare Center. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Gilbert attended Knoxville City Schools. He was a truck driver for Colonial Freight Systems, Inc. for over 30 years, driving all over the United States. Left to cherish his memory: mother, Liz “Mamma Liz” Sanders; first wife, companion Arlease “Lisa” Freeman –Sanders; daughter, April Sanders; son, Brian (Gail) Sanders, Mableton, Ga.; grandchildren, Karyea Sanders, Tein Williams, Brian Christian Sanders and Allona Stanfield; brothers, Lindsey “Lindell” (Debra),  Savannah, GA, Anthony “Tony” (Nancy KK) and Ronald Sanders, Knoxville; aunts, Mellow M. Every, Lenora Davis and Audrey (Nathaniel) Mitchell, Newark, NJ; devoted nieces, who were also his caregivers, Tiara Sanders and Kaynisha; devoted nephew, Jeffrey Davis, a host of other nieces, nephews and relatives; close childhood friend, James (Nim) Slay and special friend, Brenda Bishop. Special thanks to his co-workers at Colonial Freight Company, Shannondale Healthcare Center 5th floor staff for their excellent care and Gary Braden and family. Family and friends are asked to assemble at Unity Mortuary at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2011. Visitation will be on Friday, August 12, 2011 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with funeral service to follow at Unity Mortuary Chapel. Reverend A. D. Baxter, Eulogist. Interment will immediately follow the service at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Maryville Pike.  The service will conclude with a full dove release. The family will be at the home of “Mamma Liz”, 3001 Lay Avenue.

    The Sander’s family is in my thoughts and prayers. Amtrack (Gilbert) will be missed in the Colonial family. I hope that your family is able to find peace knowing that Gilbert is in a better place.
