Emmanuel “Big E” Ballenger

Ballenger, Emmanuel, Sr. “Big E”- 61, went home to be with Jesus on April 27, 2012.  He was a graduate of Austin East High School, Class of 1970 and a veteran of the U.S. Army. “Big E” retired from Richard Bean Juvenile Detention Center after 34 years of service. Preceded in death by his loving parents, William “June” and Thelma Ballenger, sisters, Patricia Anne Jenkins and Lenise Ballenger, brothers, Melvin, Eugene and William Jr. Ballenger and nephew, Gregory Ballenger.  He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Judith Hyatt Ballenger; children: Deborah, Leslie (Leonard) Brown, Jr., Emmanuel, Jr., (Lauren, Devore and Onya), all of Knoxville; devoted grandson, Gabriel; precious granddaughter, Laina; siblings: Mark, Sherry, Rene, Ronnie and Shannon Ballenger, all of Knoxville, Penelope Ballenger-Kyle of Atlanta, GA, Roger (Veronica) Ballenger of Columbus, OH; devoted aunt, Geraldine Ballenger; devoted cousin, William “Billy” Johnson of Lexington, KY; a host of other relatives and friends.  Monday, May 7, 2012, the family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral to follow at Unity Mortuary Chapel. Reverend Dr. Angela Cross officiating. Interment will follow at East TN Veterans Cemetery, John Sevier Highway. Services will conclude with full military honors and a full dove release.
