Anna Margaret Arnett

Arnett, Anna Margaret – of Knoxville, went home Friday morning, April 6, 2012. Anna was born December 13, 1942 to the late Otha Calloway and Helen Maria Houston. She declared her faith in God, her Savior, at an early age. She graduated from LaFollette Colored High School in 1962. For many years, she was employed by Levi Strauss but later retired from Knox County School system (Austin East High School). Anna was a devoted wife of 37 years to Melvin Richard Arnett. As a devoted wife, she also reveled in her roles as mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Mrs. Arnett had a loving spirit and an infectious smile that could light up a room. Our light is now dim, yet will shine again in the hearts of each person touched by her spirit. She was predeceased by her siblings: Joe Lewis, Jackie, Phillip “Pete”, Dennis and Elma Jean. Anna leaves to cherish her memory: devoted husband, Melvin R. Arnett; daughters: Tiretha Miller, Ursula Younge, Dania (Allen) Bradby and Natasha (Maurice) Vanderbilt; grandchildren: Antonio Miller, Bryanna and Carlos Gray III, DaShauna Myers, Jordan and Amaya Whitt, Braylen and Brennen Vanderbilt; great grandchildren: Aryiah Miller, Tyrese Jones, Oliver Velez, Kamarion Woodruff and Imear Brown; brothers, Douglas (Belinda) and Dexter Houston; sisters, Kay Ellen Radford and Suenella Houston, all of Detroit, MI; a very devoted aunt, Christine Hendrix of
Southfield, MI; devoted nieces, Delphine and Diedre Houston; devoted brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Alva Arnett; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Alvin) Haymond and Carolyn Arnett; special friends: Chelita Geter, Ollie Mae Sudderth, Calvin Frazier, Shannon Myers, LaRosia Carrington and Valencia Bryant; a host of other relatives and many friends. The family extends a sincere thank you to Dr. Keith Gray of UTMC Oncology Dept., Dr. Sandy Gulati, Tracy (Nurse) of Knoxville GI Dept., Dr. Crystal Gue and Amedysis Hospice. On Saturday, April 14, 2012, the family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at Payne Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, 2714 Martin Luther King Avenue.  Pastor Cecil Clarke officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Highland South Memorial Gardens, Chapman Highway.
