Helen L. Hill

Mrs. Helen Louise McClanahan Hill was born December 8, 1941, in Charleston, Mississippi, to the union of the late Alex and Henrietta Hill.  She was granted eternal rest on December 30, 2018 at the Diversicare Nursing Home, Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She received her early education in the Charleston school system.  Upon relocating to Oak Ridge, she attended Robertsville Middle School and graduated from Oak Ridge High School.  After raising her children, she continued her post-secondary education and received her Bachelor degree from Tusculum College. Mrs. Hill was a former employee of the Office of Science and Technical Information.  More recently, she was a substitute teacher in the Oak Ridge School system. On June 17, 1972, she was united in holy matrimony to James B. Hill Jr. She was member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.  Over the years, she served in several capacities to include, Sunday School Superintendent, Monday Evening Study Session tutor, church missionary, and a member of the Senior Choir.  She was also a member of the Atomic Chapter #13 Order of Eastern Stars. In her spare time, she enjoyed attending sporting events, reading, crossword puzzles, and being around her family.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Derrick McClanahan, her brothers, James, Nathaniel, Thomas, and Alex Hill; sisters, Maxine Cohran, Mabel Pippins, and Gloria Gilmore; and mother-in-law, Mary Lackey.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, James B. Hill, sons, Darrell (Angela) McClanahan, Dwayne (Jackie) McClanahan, and Jamil (Denise) Hill; sisters, Lou Ella Houston and Mary (Vernon) Swann; brothers, Ernest (Nancy) Hill and Grant (Alfreda) Hill; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, devoted friend, Eloise Mitchell, and a host of other family members and friends.  The family would like to thank the staff at Diversicare who so graciously tended to her needs while she was in their care. The Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 195 Wilberforce Avenue, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, with Elder J. B. Maddox as Officiant and Elder D. W. Waters as Eulogist.

Elder William A. Rowan

Elder William Alexander Rowan passed away peacefully on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. He was born and reared in Harriman, Tennessee where he received his education. Mr. Rowan graduated from the University of TN-Knoxville receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Elder Rowan was an educator in the Knoxville, Maryville, Alcoa and Blount County Schools before relocating to Chattanooga, TN where he retired as an educator from Brainerd High School. A long-time member and minister in the FBH Church where he was elevated to Presiding Elder serving the Central Georgia District until his health fail. Preceded in death by mother, Barbara Jean Rowan; father, Cleo Hutchins; grandmother, Pauline Rowan-Johnson; 6 grandaunts; 2 granduncles; 3 aunts; 3 uncles; many cousins other relatives and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory: devoted aunt, Gracie (Charles) Cooper of Pontiac, MI; devoted cousins, Cynthia (Ronald) Wells and Charles Bates of Pontiac, MI, Reverend Ralston (Rose) Kilby, Silver Springs, MD, and George A. Tolbert, Knoxville, TN; devoted friend & colleague in Ministry, Reverend Jesse R. Parker; many other relatives and friends too numerous to name. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 noon with the Celebration of Life Service to follow at Mt Moriah FBH Church, 2001 Western Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37921. The final resting place will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Maryville Pike, following the service. A white dove release will conclude the services.

Elmira Tillman

Elmira “Auntie” Tillman, of Knoxville, was born January 5, 1926 and departed this life on December 27, 2018 at Shannondale Healthcare Center at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Robert Tillman; daughter, Kathi Miles; mother, Willie Mae Hardy; and sisters: Mae Littlejohn and Aileen Hardy. She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted niece, Esther (James) Colquitt; son-in-law, CJ Miles; grandchildren: Tamikka, Latoya and Nathaniel Miles; a host of great-grandchildren; a devoted nephew, Rev. Gerald (Nancy) Littlejohn, Sr.; and a host of nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews. The family will assemble at 5316 Montwood Drive, Knoxville. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM with the Celebration of Life Service to follow at Unity Mortuary with Elder Reginald Butler officiating and Elder Dr. Joe L. Colquitt as Eulogist. The final resting place will be at Berry Highland South Memorial Gardens follow the service. A white dove release will conclude the services.

Priscilla Pye-Taylor

Priscilla Ann Pye-Taylor, 68, of Knoxville, departed this life on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Regis Woods Nursing Home, Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on February 15, 1950 to the union of Robert L. Pye and Mable Geneva Johnson-Pye both of whom preceded her in death. Priscilla was preceded in death by two brothers, David Pye and Robert Pye. She leaves to cherish her memories a loving son, Larry Taylor; sisters: Maggie Cherry, Minnie Reid, Sylvia Wyatt, Darlene Delee and Mary Giles; and brothers: Joe Pye and Edmond Pye. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 29, 2018 from 3:30 PM to 4 PM at Unity Mortuary, with the Service to follow.

 

Barbara A. Hall

Barbara Ann “Toodle” Hall, 82, of Knoxville, departed this life on Friday, December 21, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee on July 29, 1936 to the late Mildred Campbell and Essley Sims. She was the second oldest of 9 siblings, of which older brother George R. Sims and younger sister Edith M. Thomas preceded her in death. Barbara came to Knoxville in her early 20s and lived here until she left the world. She married Henry Edward Hall and had four beautiful children: Cathy (predeceased), David Sr., Greg Sr., and Patricia. Barbara was known for being the backbone of the family and was a well-known friend of the community. She was a strong believer of the Lord. She loved her family and loved her big party celebrations. She was a wonderful friend to three special ladies who also preceded her in death: Gloria Jean, Cora Mae and Nancy Tate. Barbara departed this life on Friday, December 21, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She leaves behind to cherish her memories her devoted daughter, Patricia (Frank) Hall; stepdaughter, Lawanda White; two sons: Gregory (Pearl) Hall Sr., and David (Margaret) Hall Sr.; grandchildren: Dayeshia, Tony, Sparkle, Ronnie, Domonique, Damian, Shadavia, Niyesha, Danielle, Patricia, Greg Jr., David Jr., Lakeshia, Angelel, Brent, Tyrelle, Leah and Kimora; a host of 33 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson; surviving brother and sisters: Earl S. (Era) Wagner of Wettumpa, Alabama, Frances A. (Jim) Bass of Elizabethton, TN, Loretta Thomas of Panama City, FL, Ernestine Thomas of Cleveland, OH, Hilda K. Thomas of Las Vegas, NV and Jennifer (Jeff) Graham of Gray, TN; and a host of devoted friends and family members to include: TaCola Tate, Jewel Winston, Pearl Weathers, Melkika Tate, Angie & Frank Day, Frances Bass, Antonio Hall, Niyesha Smith and Mary Hall. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 12-1 PM in the William V. Powell, Jr. Memorial Chapel of Unity Mortuary, with the Celebration of Life Service to follow with Minister Earl S. Wagner officiating. A horse-drawn carriage will escort Mrs. Hall to her final resting place at Oakland Cemetery following the service. A white dove release will conclude the services.

Elizabeth V. Hill

Virginia N. Hill, age 100 of Knoxville, TN, departed this life peacefully, December 3, 2018 at home. She was a longtime member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she sang in the sanctuary choir. She was also a Member of the Masonic Order of the Eastern Stars. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Hill; daughters, Sharon Carter and Claudia Hill; grandson, Adrian Hill; parents, Adam and Nellie Nelson; sister, Ruth Wilkerson; four brothers and a sister. She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted granddaughters, Natasha and Tamara Carter; great-grandson, Adam Hill; nephew, Wayne Wilkerson; great-niece, Tameka Wilkerson; great-nephew, Brandon Wilkerson; and many other loving relatives and friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Tabernacle Baptist Church, with the Homegoing Service to follow with Pastor Christopher Battle officiating. The final resting place will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. A white dove release will conclude the services.
