Brooks, Freeman M. – of Kingsport, Tennessee went to be with the Lord on August 30, 2011 at Hillcrest Healthcare Center North. He leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Virginia Brooks and Sandra Miller; two sisters, Lorain Coleman and Ruby Manuel and other family members and friends. Sunday, August 28th, 2011Johnson, Samuel L. – passed away Sunday, August 28, 2011. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War Veteran. Preceded in death by mother, Georgia Rice and a grandson, Xavier “Doobie” Smith. Mr. Johnson is survived by a loving wife of 47 years, Betty L. Johnson; daughter, Lena Pearl Morrison of Clarksville, TN; son, Linwood (JoAnn) Smith; grandchildren: Keda and Mark Smith, Shannta and Camara Smith of Nashville, TN and Jawanza (Reuben) Figueroa of Los Angeles, CA; 9 great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Unity Mortuary Chapel with the funeral to follow. Pastor Richard S. Brown, Jr. officiating. Interment will immediately follow the funeral at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. A full dove release will conclude the service.

Thursday, August 25th, 2011Mills, Shirley Ann– of Knoxville, TN, departed this life on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Shirley was born on July 5, 1949 to Ms. Teretha Robinson. She retired from Alcoa Aluminum Company after 27 years of service. Survived by sisters: Brenda Parker and Patricia Johnson; nieces and nephews whom she raised: Ponda, Dion, Than and Erreese; a host of great nieces, great nephews and friends to include caregiver, Mary Davis. On Thursday, September 1, 2011, the family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral to follow at the Unity Mortuary Chapel. Reverend Robert W. Monroe officiating. Interment will immediately follow the funeral at Mount Olive Cemetery, Maryville Pike. Service to conclude with a full dove release. The family will receive friends at 3210 Landview Drive.

Preceded in death by his wife, Willie B. Turner Smith. Survived by a loving son, Frankie, Jr; other children and grandchildren from his first marriage; stepchildren to include devoted stepdaughters, Judy and Pamela Turner; step grandchildren to include special grandson, Jerel Turner; brother, James Smith of Fayetteville, NC; sisters: Elizabeth Ann of San Diego, CA and Shirley Mills of Knoxville; nephews: Jason, Jalen and Andrew Smith; very special friends that will mourn his passing as well: Stewart Asbury and family, Ann and Pinkie Boatwright, Ken Rogers and a host of other relatives and friends. Our Lord saw that her twin sister on Earth needed a guardian angel and gently removed her from this life. Although, our precious little one left us so soon, we will continue to embrace her spirit. Ja’Ciyia is preceded in death by her maternal great grandmother, Bernice Porter; maternal great grandfather, Michael McMahan and brother, Tamarous Jarnigan. Survived by twin sister, JaNiya; mother, LaKera Smith; father, Larry Radcliffe; half sister, Kanina of Chicago, IL; half brothers: Carion and Jordan of Chicago, IL; maternal grandparents: Tomeka (LJ) Cowan and Maurice (Brandy) Smith, Sr.; paternal grandparents: Larry (Cynthia) Radcliffe of Chicago, IL; great grandparents: James Goines and Francis Wideman, both of Chicago, IL, Carolyn Woods and Charles (Claudia) Ellis; aunts: Angel Strong, Lisa and Eboney Goines, of Chicago, IL, Destiny and Breasia Ellis, Maurissa and Shaniece Smith; uncle, Maurice Smith, Jr.; great uncles: Carl Hill and Marquis Ellis; godmother, Rayvetta Kyle; a host of other family and friends. Flutchie B. Tolbert
Friday, August 19th, 2011Tolbert, Flutchie B.- age 97, died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Alcoa, Tennessee on Friday morning, August 19, 2011. She was born September 1, 1914 in Manchester, Georgia and later moved to Alcoa,Tennessee. The move was a result of her father obtaining a job at the Aluminum Company. She attended Charles M. Hall School. Accepting Jesus as her personal Savior many years ago, she became a member of St. Peter Primitive Baptist Church. Mrs. Tolbert’s passions were cooking and most importantly caring for her family.
Preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Adline Bryant, son, George O. Tolbert, Jr. and granddaughter, Marteace Y. George. Mrs. Tolbert leaves to cherish her memory: daughters: Claudette Kirk and Annie Sudderth of Alcoa, Gwendolyn (Ronald) Black of Oak Ridge; grandchildren: Steven (Kathleen) Kirk of Australia, James Sudderth, Jr. of Maryville, Lesley (Andy) Wood of Nashville, Ron (Laura) and Chris (Sonya) Black, both of Oak Ridge; Adam Black of Cookeville; Kevin and Kim Ferrer of New York; great grandchildren: Kevin Ferrer, Jr. and Michael Shannon, both of New York, Schlise and Steven Kirk, Jr., both of Texas, LaTisha Sudderth of Alcoa, Vann Kennedy Wood of Nashville, Donovan, Cameron and Caden Black, all of Oak Ridge; great great granddaughter, Alani Black of Alcoa; step great grandchildren, Bryson and Seth Caldwell of Oak Ridge; brother, Ernest Bryant of Friendsville, TN; nephew, Billy Bryant of Alcoa; nieces: Dee Dee Horton, Judy Carter, Linda Kinte and Neda Hardnett; and a host of other relatives and friends too numerous to name. Friday, August 12th, 2011Robinson, Glenndora – of 2516 Louise Avenue Knoxville, TN, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, August 12, 2011. Glenndora was born on March 25, 1958 in Knoxville, TN. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She graduated from Austin-East High School in 1978. She attended Rice College. She was employed by the University of Tennessee for 25 years. Glenndora served as a Sergeant in the United States Army Reserves 20 years before she retired. Glenndora was preceded in death by: mother, Stessie J. Robinson, sister, Linda Robinson Freeman and brother-in-law, Ronald (Maestro) Freeman. Survived by her two loving and devoted children; son, Keenan Darnell Robinson and daughter, Kendra Nechelle Robinson; sister, Delgloria Robinson (Randy Rivers); nephews, Alfred (Spanky) Robinson, Demond and Derond Freeman; niece, Latoya Freeman; great nephews and niece, Demond, Jr., Elijah, Derond, Jr., and Jada Freeman; devoted cousin, Gerald Revels, Bobby Foster and Sherry Smith; special friends, Lee and Angelia Ross, Deborah Reeves, Frances Dougherty, Clinton and Terry Burns, Brenda and Terry Green, Teresa Bailey, Kathy and Denise (Niecy) Locke and extended families, Robinsons, Freemans, Revels, Kincaid’s and Bomars, co-workers at The University of Tennessee and The Knoxville Job Corps Center.
