Shaniah L. Mitchell

Mitchell, Shaniah L. – joined the heavenly angels on December 16, 2011 at UT Medical Center as a result of an automobile accident. Shaniah was a student at Hardin Valley High School. She was a wonderful daughter, devoted sister, beautiful granddaughter and a fun-loving friend to everyone who knew her. If you knew her, you would know the color of the day was “PINK.”  Shaniah was a happy and free-spirited young lady. She will be sorely missed, but to know that God had another course for her to take has been accepted. Shaniah will affectionately kiss again the cheeks of her maternal grandfather, Robert Woody and paternal grandmother, Carolyn Mitchell as they welcome her to her new home. She leaves to cherish her memory: loving and devoted mother, Selena Parks; devoted father, Shannon (Frenchie) Mitchell; brothers to include devoted brother, Derek “DJ” Kellogg, Jr, Shannon and Eli Mitchell and Aaron Davis; sisters: Taiya and Kennedy Mitchell; maternal grandmother, Lelia Thomas Rivers; paternal grandfather, Willie Mitchell; aunts: Rasha Miller and Betty (Robert) Hackler; uncles: Clinton Woody of Atlanta, Richard (Katrina) and Dale Mitchell; devoted cousins, Carol Hackler, Shakira Nash of Atlanta and Kidada Wilson; devoted friends: Sierra Elliott, Danielle Harris, Shyan Strunk, Briann Hull, Kristin Conklin and Amanda McRae; a host of other relatives and friends. The family extends a special thank you to everyone for their love and support shown to them during this most difficult time. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at Freedom Fellowship Christian Church, 4027 Papermill Road.  Pastor Derrick Wakefield officiating. Interment will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens where a full dove and balloon release will conclude the service.

Otis Eugene Hunt

Hunt, Otis Eugene “Pumpkin Hunt”- was born November 22, 1947 to the late Lillie P. “Sis Hunt” Hunt. Otis went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 12, 2011. Preceded in death by mother, brother, Maurice King and uncle, Garfield Hunt. Survivors are children: Lisa Hunt, Sherri Maple, Shawn and Tenecia Murphy, Keywonder Vinson, Otis Hunt and Angel Murphy; 13 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; father, David Goins; brothers: Larry “Butch”, William “Pouchie” and “Mickey” King; sisters: Joyce (Ron) Harris, Regina (Louis) King-Pheasant, both of Nashville, Yvonne and Latethia (Vernon Johnson) Goins, Davina and Latasha King; aunt, Bernice Hunt of Maryland; a host of other relatives and friends. The family extends special thank you to Nurse Aid, Lynn Strong, Amedisys Hospice Care and Hillcrest North. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 17, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral to follow at Unity Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Gregory Hopkins officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Mount Olive Cemetery, Maryville Pike. A full dove release will conclude the service.

Hall, Andrew C. – of Knoxville, passed away on December 12, 2011 at Tennova St. Mary’s Hospital. Andrew was employed at Sam’s Wholesale, Fort Sanders and Kerns Bakery for many years. He was born to the late Ernest Sr. and Ida Hodge Hall. Preceded in death by devoted former wife, Judy Hall; brothers: June, Fred, Haynes, Ed, Johnny and Carl Hall; sisters: Margaret Barbay, Mildred Cross, Betty Battle and Helen Hall. He is survived by daughters, Lisa and Candance Hall; devoted stepchildren: Ricky, Larry and Toni Cade and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

Boya, Sandra Faye- was called home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2011. Preceded in death by beloved husband, Papa Doc Douchett Boya, devoted daughter, Excina Cates, parents, George (Marie) Brabson and sister, Lola Mae Cates.  Survivors are children: Bottavian, Papa Doc Dupree and Saundrell Boya; grandchildren: JaNosha, JaNesha, Benji, Joy and ZaMiya Boya and DeAndre’ Foster; beloved sisters, Katrina (Zachary) Merchant and Bonita (Billy) Henegar; brothers: George Jr., Richard (Vicki) and Carl Brabson; nieces: Michelle Drew, TyNequa, Etholia “Ann” and Marie Brabson and Sankinna Merchant; nephews: JaMarcus Brabson, Maurice Merchant, Shevolton, Orlando and TiVon Winston, Michael Drew, Jr. and Tavorres Weston, Jr.; devoted cousins, Rayvetta Kyle-Flack and Dorothy Kyle-Williams; devoted friend, Julia Page; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. The family extends a special thank you to Laurel Manor Healthcare Center.

William Locke Holland

Holland, William Locke (Lil’ Locke)- age 81, passed away peacefully with his sister at his side on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Bordeaux Long Term Care Facility in Nashville, TN.  He was the son of late Locke and Ruby Holland.  He was also preceded in death by sister Harriette Holland Lee.  He is survived by his brother, Rudy H. Holland of Los Angeles, CA and his sister/ caregiver Paula Holland Smith of Nashville, TN.  Locke was the father to 12 children and considered many more as his own and they are listed as followed: Sharon (Sherri), Jeryl, Tyrone, Cherry, Ricky, Deborah, Jamie, Aretha, LaTisha, Constance, Samantha, Taeesha, Leakisha, Travice and William; 25 grandchildren, nieces, nephews to include: Gregory (Pat), Jeffrey (Brenda), Jackie (Geary), April, Denise, JoAnna, Jerry (Carolyn), Alec (Latasha) and his niece Michelle was especially loved by him whom he called “Shelly-Bean” and cousins, Lillie, Jacqueline, Wilson (Marsha) and Griffin (Erma); life long friend, John (Gadius); former wives, Mary Ella Snotgrass (deceased) and Brenda Stovall; special ladies in Locke’s life: Dorothy, Bessie, Georgia and Mary.  Celebration of his life will be conducted on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 12 noon; Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Rogers Memorial Baptist Church, 520 College Street in Knoxville, Tennessee. Eulogy by Reverend A.D. Baxter.  Interment following services at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Alcoa Highway.  Body can be viewed after 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8 and Friday, December 9, 2011 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Johnson, Eugene– born August 1, 1937 in Maryville, Tennessee. He departed this life on November 29, 2011. Eugene was a graduate of Austin High School and was employed as Head Cook at Knoxville College.  Preceded in death by sons, Tony Shoemaker and Terry Johnson, parents, William (Annie May) Johnson, brothers, William Jr. and Huebert Johnson. He leaves to cherish his memory: spouse, Margaret Mackerson Johnson; children: Kym Glass, Teresa, Mahogany, Tasha, Shelly and Michael Johnson; siblings, Eddie (Angel) Johnson and Eula May Smith; a host of devoted family and friends.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral to follow at Unity Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Larry Mathis officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mount Olive Cemetery, Maryville Pike. It will conclude with a full dove release.

James Anderson

Anderson, James– age 80, born to Thomas and Nola Anderson in Mascot, Tennessee. Mr. Anderson was a graduate of Austin High School, Class of 1949. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after serving in the Korean War. With over 30 years of service, he retired from Millers Department Store (later Hess’ Distribution Center) and worked as an Auxiliary Policeman. Mr. Anderson was a member of Greater Bush Grove Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents and brother, Alvin Anderson. Survived by devoted wife of 58 years, Dorothy Hale Anderson; daughter, Margaret Yvonne Anderson, CA; sister, Mary Foust; brother-in-law: William (Patricia) Hale, Sr.; sister-in-law, Phyllis Ssekasozi, MO; a host of other relatives and friends. Special thank you to Marshall Parker, DDS and the Pelot family. Monday, November 28, 2011, the family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral to follow at Unity Mortuary Chapel.  Reverend Eugene F. Carter, Jr. officiating. Saffell, Phyllis Ann– born March 1, 1958 to Barbara and Everett Saffell. She attended Eternal Life Harvest Center.  Phyllis was a loving mother and grandmother who loved to cook.  If she wasn’t cooking, she was listening to her favorite singers Al Green and Marvin Gaye.  She was an adventurous person who loved life and will be missed by all who knew her.  Preceded in death by her father, Everett and siblings: Terry Saffell, Brenda Saffell Jatta and Denise Booker.  She leaves to cherish her memory: devoted sons, Greg “Gravy” and Jamar Gillis; grandchildren: Greg III, Shantyra, Jzai’Moni, Jamartray, Breona, and Nykema; friend and father of children, Greg Gillis; devoted and loving mother, Barbara Saffell; stepfather, Stewart Martin; brothers: Robin (Angela), Wayne (Kathy), Ronald and Donald Saffell; sisters: Marilyn, Angela and Sylvia Saffell; a host of other relatives and friends to include special friends: Jackie, Shannon, Brenda, Jamesena, Lady Ladd, Seymour, Bird, Sweet Thang, Robert, Tonk, Robert Gene, Murphy, Pat &  Mike, Debbie, Audrey, Charlotte, Shelita and the entire Walter P. Calloway, Eula Lee- age 83, born April 11, 1928 in Rockwood, Tennessee, raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away November 19, 2011, at the home of her loving and devoted cousins James “Butch” and Brenda Calloway. She lived in Shaker Heights, Ohio over 50 years and was a faithful member of the Olivet Institutional Baptist Church.
