He was preceded in death by sisters, Marjorie Sue Clemons, Barbara Lou Curry; daughter, Amanda Stout; son, Sylvester Blue; grandsons, Emanuel Man Howard, Maurice Booker, Jr.; great-grandsons, William Jason Carter, Jr., Quantaz Maurice Howard and Jacquez Hartsell Howard. He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Barbara Howard; children, Cheryl Thomas, Darlyne Howard, Betty (Don) Gilmore, Barbara (David) Williams, Valencia Smith, Margie Warren, Vicki Curry, Ralph, Freddie, Francine and Maurice McGhee; step children, Andrena Shondia, Paul and Eric Grimes, Equilla (Danny) Howell; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great- great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends including the Brinson and Clemons family. Mr. Banks retired from Stokes Electrical Company and worked with the City of Knoxville Park and Recreation and the Senior Aide Program. He was a faithful member of Wilder Missionary Baptist Church where he served as the president of the Deacon and Usher Board. He also was a member of the Male Chorus Choir. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kelly G. Gibson and Jamie DeHart and wife Ophelia Banks; son, Herbert Stapleton; daughter, Virginia Thompson and sister-in-law, Velma Phillips. He leaves to cherish his memory: 3 grandchildren, Valarie Y. Freeman, Shamiyeh (Glenn) Sims and Herbert (Tamuriele) Stapleton, III; 4 great-grandchildren, Shamika (Ebed) McRoy, Glenn Sims, Dominique Sims, Aneesa Stapleton and family members to include Rev. She graduated from Austin East High School in 1977. She lived the life that she wanted. From there she had 1 son, Kenneth L. James, Sr. who in her own words’ was her pride & joy. She was joined in death by: father, Edward W. James, Sr.; mother, Rosa L. James; nephews, Travor Haslerig and Edward W. James, III; aunt, Mrs. Ollie May Knox. She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Kenneth L. James; grandson, Kenneth, Jr.; granddaughters, Kierrah Patterson and Kendra James; brother, David S. James; 4 sisters, Patricia D. James, Debra A. McGhee, Sr.; mother, Cora Swaggerty-Young; father, Edward Taylor; brothers, Edgar “Bubba” Johnson and Edward Lee Taylor; sisters, Mary Jane Williams and Joyce Taylor. Friday, September 19th, 2014James, Cooper Rosa Lee age 82 was born on February 25, 1932 in Pulaski, Little Rock Arkansas to Richard Cooper and Lucy Evelyn Biles. She was the older of the two siblings. She departed this life to go home on Friday, September 19, 2014 at her home in Knoxville, Tennessee after a short illness. Mrs. James is a member of Shiloh United Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. Mrs. James worked for St. Mary’s Hospital for 30 years as an Obstetrical Technician, and was loved and respected by all who knew her. She saw a lot of children being born as well as some of her own grandchildren. Rosa is preceded in death by her only sister Mrs. Ollie Lee Cooper Knox; husband, Mr. Edward W. James, Sr.; 2 grandsons, Edward W. James III, and Travor Haslerig. She is blessed by a very special friend who cared for her through her illness Mrs. Brenda J. Walker. She is survived by her six children, David S. James, Patricia D. James, Debra A. James Harshaw, Belinda Y. (Howard) Moore, Brenda S. James Cribb, Lisandra L. (Edward) Tucker and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and other relatives and many dear friends. She was a faithful member of Rogers Memorial Baptist Church and Iota Phi Lambda Sorority. She retired from Knoxville College in 1997 where she was a Professor of Business Education. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wade; one daughter, Marquinta Brame; parents, and four brothers. She is survived by three children, John (Ruth) Wade, Beverly (Doug) Stokes and Burette (Anne) Wade; sisters, Bertie Candance Bowman (Columbia, MD) and Annie Belle Lackey (Lawrenceville, GA); 5 grandsons and 4 granddaughters; 7 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 12:00pm to 1:00pm on Friday, September 12, 2014, at Rogers Memorial Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor Michel S.E. Caldwell, officiating. Internment to follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
