Marquita Sharron Crews – was born on September 13, 1958 in Knoxville, TN. She was a loving mother, grandmother, devoted sister, aunt, and friend. She departed this life on January 11, 2015 at her home on Wimpole Ave. Marquita graduated from Austin-East High School Class of 1976. During this time she played basketball for the Roadrunners and went on to be named on the All KIL Defensive Team. She joined the United States Air Force in January of 1977 where she meet her husband, Keith and began a family. She was honorably discharged after five years of devoted service. During the course of her marriage Marquita had two children, Nikki and Keith (Boo) Crews. Marquita was preceded in death by her son, Keith (Boo) Crews; her loving parents, Robert (Ugh) Sr. and Daisy Latimer and her brother, Nikki (Sam) Latimer. She leaves to cherish her memory devoted daughter, Nikki A. Crews; two sisters, Deborah (James) Wright and Kathy D. Latimer; two brothers, Robert L. Latimer, Jr. and Brian K. Latimer; grandchildren, Messiah N. Middlebrook, Anthony B. Garner, Jr., and Keiara A. Johnson; and a host of aunts, cousins, and devoted friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Tabernacle Baptist Church from 2:00 until 3:00 PM with service to follow at 3:00 PM. Pastor Christopher Battle officiating. Interment will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, 11:30 AM at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 5901 Lyons View Cemetery. Services to conclude with military honor and full dove release. Saturday, January 3rd, 2015Evelyn Wade-Browne of Knoxville entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Beverly Park Place. She was a member of Lennon Seney United Methodist Church and served on the Usher Board. Evelyn was born July 28, 1926 to the late Wesley and Lucille Walker Wade. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Benjamin Browne, Sr.; son, Benjamin Browne, Jr.and Felix Browne; sister, Alease Gibson and brother, John (Jack) Black. Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory: granddaughter, Jennifer Williams; great granddaughter, Trinity, Chattanooga, TN; daughter-in-law, Kathy Browne; brother, Alexander (Margaret) Wade; sister, Thelma Jackson, Knoxville, TN; sister in-law, Thelma Carr, Alcoa, TN. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is received in death by his great-grandmothers, Pastor Sharon Welch and Overseer Mary Curd; grandfathers, James Welch and Charles Evans. He leaves to mourn: his father, Erin Welch and mother, Reneisha Evans-Welch; grandmothers, Renee Nance-Freeman and Angela Hart; grandfathers, Darrell Evans and James Welch, Jr. and a host of aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends. The Celebration of Life Services will be held Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Unity Mortuary from 5:30 to 6:30 with funeral service to follow at 6:30 with Bishop Kevin Perry officiating. Pastor Leonard David Upton
Monday, December 29th, 2014Upton, Pastor Leonard David born January 9, 1942 was called to glory with his Heavenly Father on December 29, 2014 at Fort Sanders Hospital. Pastor David graduated from High Point High School in Sweetwater, Tennessee in 1960. He was employed at the Knoxville News Sentinel for 32 years as a photo engraver and retired in 1991.
He was called by God into the ministry at Saint Joseph House of Prayer under the leadership of the late Pastor Joseph Gordon, and then later called by God to Pastor Faith Christian Center in 1981. The first service was held at TurnKey III Center on Dandridge Ave from June 1981 to April 1982.In April 1982 he made a second move to 618 North Broadway and remained there until September 27, 1984.
God blessed him to move the church to 3536 Skyline Drive where he developed a strong outreach ministry which included feeding and clothing the homeless, and transporting inmates at the Work Release Center on Sunday mornings from Dandridge Ave. He served as chaplain for the Knoxville Police Department and Morgan County Correctional Center in Morgan County Tennessee and was awarded Chaplain of the Year 3 times. Pastor David had a special compassion for the senior citizens, inmates, homeless, and anyone who had a need in their life. He became a Senior Pastor at Honey Rock Victorious Church where he took pride participating and serving at the compassion dinner every 3rd Saturday at the Phyllis Wheatley YWCA feeding over 500 people. He completed studies and graduated from the Living Manna School of Ministry and Ministry International Institute.
Preceded in death by parents, Gustin and Nellie Upton; daughter, Daviena Casby; brothers, William, Charles, and Eddie Upton; sisters, Elizabeth Upton and Josephine Wilkerson. Survived by wife, Katherine Upton. Former wife, Ann Upton, and devoted children, daughters, Angela Winton, Kimberly (Marvin) Duncan, son, David Jr., stepchildren, Nathaniel and Angela Taylor, brothers, Kenneth, Apostle Jerry (Janice) Upton, sisters, Beverly Dunn, Brenda (Tommy) Hardy, seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and Honey Rock Church family, including spiritual sons and daughters. Special thanks to Fort Sanders Hospital 3rd West Wing and Holston Healthcare for all the love and care you gave during his illness.
The family will be receiving friends at 2401 Brooks Rd, Knoxville, TN 37914. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 (11:30 am) at Overcoming Believers Church, 211 Harriet Tubman St., Knoxville, TN 37915. They will receive friends the day of the funeral from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. The interment will immediately follow the service at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, 3176 Airport Highway, Alcoa, TN 37701. Doves will be released to conclude the service.
Airman First Class Bogui W. Yann
Monday, December 29th, 2014Airman First Class Bogui W. Yann departed this life in December 2014 while serving in the United States Air Force. He was born on February 6, 1992 in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire and moved to Tennessee where he graduated from Farragut High School in 2011. Bogui enlisted in the Air Force completing Basic Military Training in October 2013. After graduating from Security Forces technical training at Joint-Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, he moved on to Vandenberg Air Force Base, California where he was assigned to the 30th Security Forces Squadron. As a Member of the 30th SFS he performed duties as a Response Force Member protecting critical assets for the West Coast of the United States. He was actively engaged in the Base Soccer Team and was extremely well known for having a great heart and infectious smile. Bogui was very active with Sought Out Ministries Christian Center where he was ordained a minister on February 21, 2013. Airman 1st Class Yann is survived by his mother, Gevevieve Kouassi; father, Bogui Degni; stepmother, Shalonda Degni; brother, Terrance Degni; sister, Stephanie Degni; grandmothers, Catherin Jones and Brou Attou Suzanne. Family will receive friends Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 2:00 until 3:00 PM with service to follow in the William V. Powell, Jr. Memorial Chapel at Unity Mortuary with Pastor Sheryl Curry officiating. Internment to be held on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 1:30 PM at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery- John Sevier Highway with full military honors. Service to conclude with full dove release.

Friday, December 26th, 2014Raymond Cecil Ewing, Sr. – age 75, fell asleep in Christ on December 26, 2014 at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital. Raymond was a man of many talents; some would say a Jack of all trades, as well as serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was a life-long member of Grady’s Chapel AME Zion Church. Raymond was a loving father and husband. He is preceded in death by parents, wife, 8 brothers and 1sister. He is survived by 11, children Ray (Carrie) Ewing, Leroy (Danielle)Ewing, Herbie (Ashley) Ewing, James Rutledge, Stella Ewing, Melissa Ewing, Cecelia Rutledge, Crystal Rutledge, Nikki Johnson, Linda Ford, Karen Bell; additionally he leaves behind, 3 sisters, and 1 brother, Retha Beal, Betty (Mike) Tipton, Maggie Mize and James (Isadora) Ewing. Celebration of his life will be Thursday, January 1, 2015 with visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM at the William V. Powell, Jr. Memorial Chapel at Unity Mortuary with graveside service to follow with Interment at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kingsport, TN.

She is survived by two brothers, Walter, Jr. (Annie) and William Sutton; two sisters, Carolyn Sutton, with whom she resided, and Mary (Abdul) Salaam (Montgomery, Alabama); four nephews, three nieces, several grandnephews and grandnieces and cousins.
