{"id":1164,"date":"2012-04-27T14:10:42","date_gmt":"2012-04-27T19:10:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitymortuary.com\/obits\/?p=1164"},"modified":"2012-04-30T14:14:28","modified_gmt":"2012-04-30T19:14:28","slug":"emmanuel-big-e-ballenger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/unitymortuary.com\/obits\/?p=1164","title":{"rendered":"Emmanuel &#8220;Big E&#8221; Ballenger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/unitymortuary.com\/obits\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Emmanuel-Ballenger-OBIT-PIC2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1169\" title=\"Emmanuel Ballenger OBIT PIC\" src=\"http:\/\/unitymortuary.com\/obits\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Emmanuel-Ballenger-OBIT-PIC2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Ballenger, Emmanuel, Sr. \u201cBig E<\/strong>\u201d- 61, went home to be with Jesus on April 27, 2012.\u00a0 He was a graduate of Austin East High School, Class of 1970 and a veteran of the U.S. Army. \u201cBig E\u201d retired from Richard Bean Juvenile Detention Center after 34 years of service.\u00a0Preceded in death by his loving parents, William \u201cJune\u201d and Thelma Ballenger, sisters, Patricia Anne Jenkins and Lenise Ballenger, brothers, Melvin, Eugene and William Jr. Ballenger and nephew, Gregory Ballenger.\u00a0 He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Judith Hyatt Ballenger; children: Deborah, Leslie (Leonard) Brown, Jr., Emmanuel, Jr., (Lauren, Devore and Onya), all of Knoxville; devoted grandson, Gabriel; precious granddaughter, Laina; siblings: Mark, Sherry, Rene, Ronnie and Shannon Ballenger, all of Knoxville, Penelope Ballenger-Kyle of Atlanta, GA, Roger (Veronica) Ballenger of Columbus, OH; devoted aunt, Geraldine Ballenger; devoted cousin, William \u201cBilly\u201d Johnson of Lexington, KY; a host of other relatives and friends.\u00a0 Monday, May 7,\u00a02012, the family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral to follow at Unity Mortuary Chapel.\u00a0Reverend Dr. Angela Cross officiating.\u00a0Interment will follow at East TN Veterans Cemetery, John Sevier Highway.
