Walter E. Keith

Keith, Walter E. – of Knoxville, departed this life on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Fort Sanders Regional. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Allie Keith; wife, Mahalia Keith; sisters, Olivia Keith and Mayola Strong; brothers, Clifford Taylor, Archie Keith, Jr. and David Keith. He leaves to cherish his memories: children, Vanda Earls, Andre Keith, Gina (Greg) Hyatt, Karon (Quintel) James, Alison Keith and Walt Washington; grandchildren, Chloe Hyatt, Chandler Hyatt, Ahijah Washington and Jada McNair; sisters, Lillian McMullen and Stella Waller; brother, William Keith; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives too numerous to name. The family would like to thank Staff at Brakebill Nursing Home and Ft. Sanders Regional for their loving care. The Homegoing Celebration will be held Monday, February 2, 2015 from 12:00 – 1:00 PM with service to immediately follow at West Hills Baptist Church, 409 Winston Rd. Knoxville, TN 37909 with Minister Tony Keith officiating. Interment will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E. John Sevier Highway at 9:30 AM. The service will conclude with military honors, full dove release and blanket presentation. The family will assemble at 429 Grandview Drive at 11:00AM on Monday.

L.V. Colbert

Colbert, L.V.  – answered the Lord’s call on January 15, 2015 at his home. He was born in Etowah, Tennessee on November 18, 1933 to the late Jodie Colbert, Sr. and Macie Williams Colbert. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Tennessee Valley Elks and Keblah Temple #57. He leaves to celebrate his homecoming, former wife, Vernia Colbert; sons, Darrell and Anthony of  Knoxville, LaVernon Robinson of New York; daughters, Sharon Stewart, Sybil Sligh and Mary (Steven) Tate; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 4 great – great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Smoky Mountian Hospice for their unfaltering service. Service will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church 2714 Brook Road.  Family will receive friends, 6:00 – 7:00 pm with celebration of life services to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. A.D. Baxter, officiating. Interment will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2015, 11:30 AM at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E. John Sevier Hwy. Services to conclude with Military Honors and full dove release.

Dr. Margaret Porter Hartsell

Dr. Margaret Porter Hartsell – passed away on January 13, 2015, surrounded by family and friends. She was born on February 9, 1922, the beloved daughter and only child of Cecil Heiskell Porter and Ruth McKinney Porter. She graduated from Knoxville College in 1942 with a double major in History and English. She studied further at the University of Chicago and ultimately received her Master’s degree in English Education from New York University in 1958 and her Doctorate in Education from the University of Tennessee in 1983. She spent her entire career as an Educator, teaching at Livingstone College, the Knoxville Public Schools, Knoxville College and the University of Tennessee, where she retired as an Associate Professor of English. She is survived by her daughter, Cecelia Hartsell of New York City and dear friends. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Unity Mortuary Chapel from 12:30 until 1:30 PM with service immediately following with Pastor Kamau Kenyatta officiating. Interment at Highland Memorial Park, Sutherland Avenue. The Ivy Service for members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 3:00pm in the William V. Powell, Jr. Memorial Chapel of Unity Mortuary.

 

Marquita Sharron Crews

Marquita Sharron Crews – was born on September 13, 1958 in Knoxville, TN. She was a loving mother, grandmother, devoted sister, aunt, and friend. She departed this life on January 11, 2015 at her home on Wimpole Ave. Marquita graduated from Austin-East High School Class of 1976. During this time she played basketball for the Roadrunners and went on to be named on the All KIL Defensive Team. She joined the United States Air Force in January of 1977 where she meet her husband, Keith and began a family. She was honorably discharged after five years of devoted service. During the course of her marriage Marquita had two children, Nikki and Keith (Boo) Crews. Marquita was preceded in death by her son, Keith (Boo) Crews; her loving parents, Robert (Ugh) Sr. and Daisy Latimer and her brother, Nikki (Sam) Latimer. She leaves to cherish her memory devoted daughter, Nikki A. Crews; two sisters, Deborah (James) Wright and Kathy D. Latimer; two brothers, Robert L. Latimer, Jr. and Brian K. Latimer; grandchildren, Messiah N. Middlebrook, Anthony B. Garner, Jr., and Keiara A. Johnson; and a host of aunts, cousins, and devoted friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Tabernacle Baptist Church from 2:00 until 3:00 PM with service to follow at 3:00 PM. Pastor  Christopher Battle officiating. Interment will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, 11:30 AM at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 5901 Lyons View Cemetery. Services to conclude with military honor and full dove release. Family and friends will assemble at 2929 Wimpole Avenue at 12:30 PM. The family wishes to express their gratitude to family and friends that have shown their love and affection during this journey.

Evelyn Wade-Browne

Evelyn Wade-Browne of Knoxville entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Beverly Park Place. She was a member of Lennon Seney United Methodist Church and served on the Usher Board. Evelyn was born July 28, 1926 to the late Wesley and Lucille Walker Wade. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Benjamin Browne, Sr.; son, Benjamin Browne, Jr.and Felix Browne; sister, Alease Gibson and brother, John (Jack) Black. Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory: granddaughter, Jennifer Williams; great granddaughter, Trinity, Chattanooga, TN; daughter-in-law, Kathy Browne; brother, Alexander (Margaret) Wade; sister, Thelma Jackson, Knoxville, TN; sister in-law, Thelma Carr, Alcoa, TN. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 8, 2015 in the chapel of Unity Mortuary from 11:30 until 12:00 Noon with the service to follow at 12:00 Noon. Reverend Donald Swift officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thomas Dixon Mission, Lennon Seney United Methodist Church, 2084 Dandridge Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37915. Interment will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015, 11:30 AM at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 5901 Lyons View Cemetery. Services to conclude with full dove release.

Aidyn Keyshawn Welch

Welch, Aidyn Keyshawn – was born on April 9, 2014 went home to be with the Lord on January 1, 2015. He is received in death by his great-grandmothers, Pastor Sharon Welch and Overseer Mary Curd; grandfathers, James Welch and Charles Evans. He leaves to mourn: his father, Erin Welch and mother, Reneisha Evans-Welch; grandmothers, Renee Nance-Freeman and Angela Hart; grandfathers, Darrell Evans and James Welch, Jr. and a host of aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends. The Celebration of Life Services will be held Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Unity Mortuary from 5:30 to 6:30 with funeral service to follow at 6:30 with Bishop Kevin Perry officiating. Interment will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 1:30 PM at New Gray Cemetery. Services to conclude with dove release.
