Timothy D. Jenkins

Jenkins, Timothy D. – age 41, of Knoxville went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 21, 2011.  Timothy was born November 6, 1969 in Gaffney, SC.  He was a 1989 graduate of Austin East High School and served in the United States Navy for 12 years.  He was a faithful member of Calvary Revival Church Greeters Ministry in Virginia.  He had a loving heart, a gentle spirit and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.  Preceded in death by his father, Sammie L. Jenkins.  Survived by mother, Ann Johnson; son, Timothy Seth Jenkins; brothers, Terry Jenkins of Gaffney SC, Roger Jenkins of Nashville, TN, and Sammie Jenkins, Sr.; sisters, Beverly Wynn, Kim Blair and Ramona Jenkins; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and a host of friends.  A special thanks to all of his caregivers, VA social workers, devoted friends Lynnwood Hoskie, Robin Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Pope and his church family in Virginia.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 27, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at Unity Mortuary Chapel.  Rev. Dr. Harold Middlebrook officiating.  On Friday, January 28, 2011 at 11:30 a.m., the interment will be at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 5901 Lyons View Pike.  Services to conclude with full military honors and a full dove release.

Proctor, Ruth J. of Knoxville passed away on Monday, January 17, 2011 at Ridgeview Terrace of Life Care. She was an original member of St. Luke Episcopal Church.  Preceded in death by husband, Joseph A. Proctor, Jr.  Survived by son, Joseph A. (Evelyn) Proctor, III; daughter, Dr. Idelia Phillips and a host of relatives and friends.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 22, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with funeral service to follow at St. Luke Episcopal Church at 600 S. Chestnut Street.  Father David Pina officiating.  Interment at Highland Memorial on Sutherland Avenue.  The service will conclude with a full dove release.

Cates, Lola Mae– age 54, passed away January 13, 2011.  Preceded in death by parents, George and Marie Brabson; son, Tavorres Delsalvio Weston, Sr.  Survivors to include grandsons: Tavorres Weston, Jr. and Jaquan Weston; brothers, George Brabson, Jr., Carl Brabson, Richard (Vickie) Brabson; sisters, Sandra Boya, Bonita (Billy) Henegar, Katrina Merchant; devoted nieces: Etholia Brabson and Sekinna Merchant; special friends to include Michele Winston, Marcella Wolfe and Vanisha Weston and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and the Mount Olive Baptist Church family.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at Mount Olive Baptist Church.  Rev. Dr. Latisha Reeves officiating. Interment will be at New Gray Cemetery immediately following the service.  The service to conclude with a full dove release.

HOLLOWAY, DORIS “TEE TEE” – 76, passed away December 5, 2010. She was a dedicated member of Greater Warner Tabernacle A.M.E Zion Church. She was preceded in death by parents, Edward and Paralee Conwell; husband, Herman Holloway; sister, Betty Conwell.  She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Gloria (Don) Carter and Gwendolyn Holloway of  Knoxville, TN; devoted granddaughter she reared, Erica Holloway; grandchildren, Fanesha (Vondrick) Powell of Knoxville, TN and Jamaude Carter, Augusta, GA; great-grandchildren, Jakhi and Camden Powell; Siblings, Edgar Conwell of Atlanta, GA;Walter “Joe” (Cartey) Conwell, Bonnie Martin, Margie Pratt and  Joseph “Don” (Gwen) Conwell all of Knoxville ,TN; a host of family and friends.  Family will receive friends Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 11:00-11:30 AM with funeral services to follow at Greater Warner Tabernacle A.M.E. James Thomas West

WEST, JAMES THOMAS (Snook) – 86 years old of Knoxville departed this life on Friday, October 15, 2010 at 4:50 p.m. at Hillcrest North.  James was a graduate of Austin High School in 1941, attended Knoxville College; U.S. Navy Veteran (stationed in Norfolk, VA in World War II) and a member of American Legion, Post No.2.  He retired from Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for 39 years as a Records Officer in the Office of General Counsel; “Honorary” –Knoxville, TN Citizen Award –Mayor Bill Haslam; President of Five Points Neighborhood Development Corporation and Board Member for several years; and was an outstanding Masonic member and Shriner for many years serving in several capacities as Potentate and Recorder for many years in civic and charity events; also “Honorary” Member-Austin East Magnet High Tailgaters; and he was a faithful member of Clinton Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church from early youth until death in which he served in many capacities and as Trustee.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather and great-grandmother, Sam E. West, Sr. & Susie Siler-West; grandfather and grandmother, Hugh Lawson White Hudson and Roya Armstrong Hudson; Elder (Uncle) Thomas and Aunt Annie West; Uncle Charlie West and Aunt Emma West, Pensie West; Uncle Jake Hudson; mother and father, the late Samuel E. West and Lillian Hudson West; step-mother, Vada West; and father and mother-in-law, James H. Taylor, Sr. and Lucy Buis Taylor; son-in-law, Daniel (Petey) Hardin; and brother-in-law and wife, James H. Taylor Jr. and Anna Mai Allen-Taylor.

Survivors: married for 60 years to devoted wife Willistine Taylor West; devoted daughters, Lillian A. West-Collins and Jamesena A. West-Hardin; one granddaughter, Madelyn A. Collins; grandsons, Daniel J. Hardin and Tyrone Jabriel Hardin; one-great grandson, Kaiden L. Sims-Hardin; cousins: James L. Hudson, Jr. and son James L. Reese, Larry D. – departed this life on Monday, October 4, 2010, at his residence. Born March 31, 1954, to the late William and Lydia Reese. He was educated in the Knoxville City Schools and was a 1975 graduate of Fulton High School. Larry attended East Tennessee State University, was an employee of Robertshaw, Union Carbide and KAT. At an early age, Larry united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by: a sister, Mary Ellen and his late ex-wife, Ingrid Reese. He is survived by: his devoted son, Jerel; brother, Vincent Wayne Reese, Lebanon, TN; sister, Debra Ann Reese; nieces and nephews – Jamillah and Tamara Reese, Roshan Jordan, Jr., Vincent Reese, Juan McKinney; great nephew, Roshan Jordan Jr; uncle, Bobby (Joella ) Donohoo; devoted sister-in-law, LaVerna Lattimore and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Unity Mortuary Chapel, 1425 McCalla Avenue with funeral service to follow. Reverend Steve Simpson

Brown, Aaron Sr. – age 81, of Knoxville our strong and devoted father went to be with the Lord on September, 29, 2010. He was preceded in death by: his loving wife of 60 years, Eloise Brown; parents, Howard Brown, and Lula Ellington; brothers, Eugene, Arthur Lee, and Herbert; sisters, Fronia, Mary and Martha; son-in-law, James Gaillard. Survivors include: sons, Aaron Jr.(Tina), Michael (Linda) and Alvin Brown, all of Knoxville; daughters, Cheryl Carter, Dorothy Smith, and Janice Gaillard all of Knoxville; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Lee Brown, of Knoxville,; sisters-in-law, Lula Brown of Milwaukee, WI., Dorothy Brown of Prattville, AL., and Ethel Luse of Kosciusko, MS.; a host of devoted nieces, nephews and cousins and several caring friends. Special thanks to the 12th floor staff at University of Tennessee Medical Center and Betsy Xiques of Palliative Care. Family will receive friends on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Tabernacle Baptist Church from 12:00 Noon until 12:30 pm with services to follow. Pastor Christopher Battle, Sr. officiating. Brown, Eloise – age 77, of  Knoxville. Our precious and loving mother went to be with the Lord, Sunday, September 26, 2010. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Ed and Florence Ellington; children, Larry, Ted and Fronia; son-in-law, James Gaillard; her husband of 60 years, Aaron Brown, Sr. passed away 3 days after her home going. Survivors sister, Ethel Luse of Koscuisko, Mississippi; sons, Aaron Jr. (Tina), Michael (Linda), and Alvin Brown; daughters, Cheryl Carter, Dorothy Smith, Janice Gaillard, all of Knoxville, TN.; grandchildren, Kim (Eddie), Steven, Doug, Russell Jr., Shanna, Brian, James III, Jennifer, Charles Jr., Whitney, Briana, LeAnn;  eight great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Robert Lee Brown, of Knoxville; sisters-in-law, Lula Brown of Milwaukee, WI. and Dorothy Brown of Prattville, Al.; a host of devoted nieces, nephews and cousins and several caring friends. Bernice West Overton-Manning slept peacefully away on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at NHC Fort Sanders Nursing Home in Knoxville, TN. Bernice was born on August 15, 1927 to the parentage of Eva West Franklin and stepfather, James Franklin. She was a Registered Nurse and worked for Lakeshore Mental Hospital before opening her own private health care business. She was a long time member of the House of God. She was preceded in death by parents: mother, Eva West Franklin and stepfather, James Franklin. She leaves to cherish her memories: son, Romulus Ewell Overton, Sr.; daughter, Peggie Overton Moran; nine grandchildren, Romulus, Jr., Sessily, John-III, Myron, Robyn, Keonia, Bryiant, Ryin and William, Jr.; 16 great-grandchildren; cousins, Eva West-Polk, Willie Mae West-Davis and Pearlie Mae Bassett; a host of relatives and friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 29, 2010 from 6:00-6:30 PM with funeral services to follow at Unity Mortuary Chapel, 1425 McCalla Avenue, Knoxville, TN. Reverend Dr. Michel S. E. Survived by:  husband, Curtis King Jr.; children, Curtis (Kwanda) King and Michael King; daughter-in-law Cynthia King; step-son, Anthony Hinton; step-father, Robert (Bob) Scruggs; sister, Denise Dalton; grandchildren, Curtis King, Jermeshia Wilkins, Jasmine Fuller, Alexis Conley; devoted companion of 15 years Derrick Brooks and 2 great-grandchildren; uncle, Harless (Jesse) Harper; nephews, Jeffery (Monica) Daniel and Bryan Patrick; nieces, Ashley Moss, Je”Lynn Daniel; 1 great-nephew; 1 great niece.
