Murriel Levon Butts, age 65, of Knoxville, departed his life January 24, 2016 at his residence. He is preceded in death by his mother, Florence Schooler; grandmother, Henrietta Blair-Prater; sister, Diane Schooler; brothers, DeWayne Schooler and Walter Butts. He is survived by his son, Tony (Melanie) Foster; 17 grandchildren; sister, Gwendolyn Butts; brothers, Robert Schooler and Dwight Schooler; 1 niece, Lisa Schooler; 9 great-nephews Walter Levon Schooler; uncle, Douglas C. Blair, Sr.; cousin, Cash, and best friend Priscilla Taylor and son Larry Taylor; a host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends on Monday, February15, 2016 from 12:00-1:00 pm with a Memorial service to follow at Unity Mortuary Chapel.

Dr. Jesse James
Monday, January 18th, 2016Dr. Jesse James passed away on January 18, 2016, at his residence. He was born on January 26, 1937, in Haynesville, Louisiana, and is a graduate of Texas Southern University where he attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Mathematics. In 1965 he earned the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biochemistry from the University of Texas, Medical Branch in Galveston. He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Dr. James came to Knoxville College in 1965 as a Chemistry Professor. During many summers, he worked as a researcher at ORNL, Colgate Palmolive, and UT. Dr. James is survived by Sylvia, his wife of 56 years, and 5 children, 7 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be held on Monday, January 25, 2016 from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church on Cedar Bluff Road. Father Michael Woods is officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens. Services to conclude with dove release and blanket presentation.

Wednesday, January 6th, 2016Mr. Allen Terry Brown, son of the late Jean Blackmon- Brown and Albert Brown, was born on August 28, 1953 in Manhattan, New York. He grew up in Englewood, NJ, later moved to Lancaster and Hilton Head, SC. and Richmond, VA, and eventually moved to Knoxville, TN. He entered into eternal rest on January 6, 2016 at Tennova Hospital. Those left to cherish fond memories are his son, Lamar A Brown of Simpsonville, SC; granddaughter, Senaiya Brown of Atlanta, GA; three brothers, James (Pam) and Albert Jr. of Knoxville, TN, and Glenn of Richmond, VA; and five sisters, Penny (Larry) Cunningham of Knoxville, TN, Sandra (David) Moore of Los Angeles, CA, Estelle (Ryan) Rice and Janice (Andre) Best of Richmond, VA, and Peagan Twitty of Maryland; a special friend, Jonnie Taylor of Knoxville, TN as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. The family will receive friends from 5:30 – 6:30 pm, Wednesday, Jan 13, 2016, funeral service 6:30 pm at The Unity Mortuary Chapel. Warren (Marvin) of Omaha, NE; Ex-Wife and long-time friend, Sharon M. Johnson of Asheville, NC; sister-In-Law, Mildred Williams of Knoxville, TN. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends to memorialize him.
